Ways to Help Your Mental Health

The 10th October is World Mental Health Day & all of us at SigTech Rail want to remind all our work colleagues that it’s always important to not only look after your physical health but also your mental health too.  Psychological research has revealed several things you can do to make the most of your mental health.

Relationships Matter

Relationships & communications not only matter – they are vital. Try to have lots of meaningful relationships with various people in your life so that you can genuinely share your thoughts, feelings, and any difficulties that you may be going through.  Also reciprocate & listen to your friends & family to see how you can help to support them tooAlso don’t forget, every member of the team at SigTech Rail are here for you, all day, every day, 365 days a year.

Celebrate

Celebrate even the smallest of positive experiences that happen during the day whilst savouring all the good things in your life. Also write down on post-it notes 5 things each day that make you feel happy, grateful, or positive & post these all round your home to help keep you focused and positive.

Talk, Talk, Talk

Do not keep your feelings to yourself as doing this will only put strain on your mental health.  Share anything that is bothering you with anyone you feel you can talk to. Remember, a problem shared is a problem halved.

Put Pen to Paper

When you process difficult emotions try to think of various constructive solutions which may help you to confront the issue and make you see the situation from a completely different perspective. Remember never underestimate your own capabilities. The brain is both powerful and complex & is very capable of finding a solution to most problems or situations.  Try writing your problem or emotions down on paper and then seeing if you can come up with positive answers which may help.  Sometimes, when you write things down they don’t seem as bad as you initially thought.

Grow Positive Habits

Kindness, generosity, forgiveness, and compassion towards others, whilst also having an appreciation for the things you love & care about will actually lower your stress levels. Creating positive habits will also provide you with the feel-good hormone dopamine whilst also helping you be kinder to yourself and enabling you to process your emotions & brain activities more clearly. Remember, be in the moment whilst creating a positive purpose to your life.

Be Kind to Yourself

Don’t keep bullying yourself or going over past mistakes or life’s failures.  Treat yourself with the same kindness, support and concern that you would show to a friend.  And always remember YOU are important, loved by many, very special and there are people right now in your life that need & depend upon. So you owe it to yourself to get the help you need for own good mental health and general well-being.

Improve Work Life Balance

Have a look at all the different areas of your life.  Are you working too hard? Do you get time to exercise? Or spend time with loved ones?  It’s very easy to be pulled into the stresses and strains of everyday life especially work and all the responsibilities that go with a job.  But it’s crucial for your mental health and wellbeing that you take time out just for you.  Whether it’s a walk with the dog, catching up on a date with a loved one or just chilling with friends.  Start today on improving that work-life balance.
